CHIMES AND TOWER BELLS

THE CALL TO WORSHIP John O’Meara

Liturgist: Disciples of Jesus, you are called from your homes, by the Living God to offer your worship to Him, together as the Body of Christ.
People: We come freely and gladly to acknowledge Christ is King of Kings, Lord of the Church, and Lord of our lives.
Liturgist: Come saint and sinner. Come seek and come find. Come to be satisfied with the good things offered to you freely:
ALL: in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Let us worship God.

*HYMN 481 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation

*THE PRAYER OF THE DAY and THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever and bid us pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*THE GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 558)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

THE ANNOUNCEMENTS Rev. Steven A. Peay, Ph.D.

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Logan Riley Keller
son of Jasmine & Brian Keller

[The Minister introduces the Sacrament and then call us to:]

THE COVENANT OF BAPTISM

Minister: What can we affirm about our children?
People: That they are made in the image of God and are children of God by creation.
Minister: As Logan grows in our congregation, how will we show him that he is a child of God?
People: We will tell him about Abraham, the father of our faith; about Sarah, the mother of Isaac; about Moses, who led our ancestors out of bondage; about Ruth’s example of faithfulness; about the Jewish hope for a Messiah; about Jesus Christ the Savior; and about the history of the Church as the people of God.
Minister: What will we expect of Logan?
People: We look to the day when he will sit with us at the Lord’s Table, declare faith in Jesus Christ, confirm the heritage which we will pass along to him, and come as an adult to full commitment to God’s will and work.
Minister: In presenting your child for baptism, you announce your love for Jesus Christ, your eagerness to participate in the life of Christ’s body, the church, and your commitment to live as Christ’s disciples in the world. Is this your desire?
Parents: It is.
Minister: Do you parents assume your primary responsibility for modeling the Christian faith and teaching Logan these expectations?
Parents: Yes, we happily accept this serious duty.
Minister: Members of this Church, as of the whole Church of Christ, do you pledge to work toward creating a nurturing environment for Logan and all our children?
People: Yes, we do, for they belong to us as well.
Minister: With joy, we celebrate together the gift of God’s grace in Christ. May God be with us.
People: God help us. Amen.

THE INVITATION TO SUNDAY SCHOOL

THE PSALMODY Psalm 130 sung to Aberystwyth Hymn 380

From the depths I cry to Thee, For the Lord my soul awaits;
Savior, Lord, my prayer receive; In God’s word, my hope is laid;

Who can stand the press of sin? As the sentries by the dawn
Those who in Thy grace believe. For their patience are repaid.

Mark not my iniquity, Hope in God, O Israel;
Lest the burden break my heart; God, whose steadfast love is sure;

Not my hear alone, but Thine, Who for us redemption brings;
For with mercy great Thou art. God, whose mercies shall endure.

*THE DOXOLOGY (Hymn 563)

Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below;
Praise Him above, ye heav’nly host;
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. Amen.

*THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING AND DEDICATION

Liturgist: Let us give our thanks and dedicate ourselves to God.

ALL: Lord our God, out of our paychecks, pensions and pocket money we bring forth a fitting portion of what we have earned with our time and energy, to be used to sustain financially the work of this congregation, the wider church and Your Kingdom here upon the Earth. We recognize that money alone will not do Lord, so here we also offer ourselves: the time allotted to us and how we use it. The talents you have blessed us with which we have encouraged. Those things which we possessively call “ours”: our cars and homes, our relationships, our bank accounts, our politics and priorities, our technology, our environment. May we constantly be endeavoring to discover new ways we can be committed to you and build your values into our living. Lord our God may all of life be a prayer of thanksgiving to you. Amen.
