CHIMES AND TOWER BELLS

THE CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Samuel R. Schaal

Minister: Today we use some thoughts from a French poet to call us to worship. Let us offer these words together:
ALL: “My God of peace, of joy and delight, I offer you all my tears, all my ignorance. My God of peace, of joy and delight, I offer you all my fears and fractured promises. You, my God, know all this, all this; How poor I am, how small I am; You, my God, know all this, all this. Yet what I have, my God, I give to you.” [Paul Verlaine 1844-1896]

*HYMN 2 Holy God, We Praise Thy Name

*THE PRAYER OF THE DAY and THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

O God, the protector of all who trust in you, without whom nothing is strong, nothing is holy: Increase and multiply upon us your mercy; that, with you as our ruler and guide, we may so pass through things temporal, that we lose not the things eternal; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever and taught us to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*THE GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 558)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen, Amen.

THE OFFERTORY

Minister: Hear these words of Paul to the Church at Rome, “So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life – and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.” [Romans 12:1 The Message] In that spirit, we bring our offerings to God.
