CHIMES AND TOWER BELLS

THE CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Samuel R. Schaal
Minister: What does the Lord require of us?
People: We are to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with God.
(based on Micah 6:8)
Minister: Is it too little to ask?
People: No, for we are a people claimed by God as his own, to proclaim the glorious deeds of him who has called us out of darkness into God’s marvelous light. (based on 1 Peter 2:9)
ALL: We gather to worship God!

*HYMN 481 Christ Is Made the Sure Foundation

*THE PRAYER OF THE DAY and THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

Arise O Lord, who judges the earth; as you dwell in and possess the faith of all nations, do not leave us to lie in darkness. Grant that we may not lay the foundations of our faith on the sand where the wind and storm may overcome them, but be established on the rock which is steadfast in you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who taught us to pray saying:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*THE GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 558)

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen, Amen.

THE PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) and THE ABSOLUTION

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

THE GREAT THANKSGIVING PRAYER

Minister: The Lord be with you.
People And also with you.
Minister Lift up your hearts.
People We lift them to the Lord.
Minister Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
People It is right to give him thanks and praise.

[The Minister continues the prefatory prayer; after “glorify your name as we say” we all say:]

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might,
heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

[The Ministers then continue the Great Thanksgiving Prayer.]
