WELCOME AND CALL TO WORSHIP Rev. Samuel R. Schaal
Minister: Some of us are dead tired.
People: Lord, raise us up!
Minister: Some of us are trapped in dead relationships.
People: Lord, raise us up!
Minister: Some of us come carrying hopes and dreams that have died.
People: Lord, raise us up!
Minister: We come, Lord, to be revived in your presence.
People: Lord, raise us up, and breathe new life into our spirits!

*HYMN 228 Spirit of God, Descend upon My Heart

*THE PRAYER OF THE DAY AND THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

God of mystery and mercy, grant us new life as we seek you during this journey of Lent. We are sometimes so sure that hope is gone. It seems so clear that selfishness and apathy are winning the day. We doubt even your ability to put things right. Give us spirits of trust and hope. Inspire us with the words of your son, who taught us to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen.

*ASCRIPTION OF GLORY (Hymn 560) Be Thou, O God, Exalted High

Be Thou, O God, exalted high; And as Thy glory fills the sky,
So let it be on earth displayed,Till thou art here, as there, obeyed.
