*CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP

*PRAYER OF INVOCATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

Timeless One, you create all moments of our lives, giving each its meaning and purpose.
 Strengthen us to witness continually to the love of Jesus Christ, that we may hold fast in times
 of trial, even to the end of the ages.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

*THE PSALMODY                                Psalm 116                               (sung to Rockingham)

            {Children ages 3 through 8th grade are dismissed to Sunday School

during the singing of the Psalm.}

I love the Lord, who heard my voice,

  And answered my most earnest plea;

When snares of death my life would take,

  E’en then, O God, I call on Thee.

O what can I to good return

  For all the bounty from Thy store?

Seen with Thy grace, my highest prize

  Is naught, what can I give Thee more?

I lift salvation’s cup from which

  Thou had me drink to seal my vow;

And in the sight of all around,

  I honor my commitment now.

The recompense for what is mine

  Is to exalt Thy name always;

My heart with thanks should ne’er run dry,

  Nor tongue refuse to sing Thy praise.

Prayer

Haweis and Cotterill, 1792

O Thou, from whom all goodness flows,

I lift my soul to Thee;

In all my sorrows, conflicts, woes,

Dear Lord, remember me!

When on my aching burdened heart

My sins lie heavily,

My pardons speak new peace impart;

In love remember me.

Temptations obstruct my way,

and ills I cannot flee;

O give me strength, Lord, as my day;

For good remember me.

And when before Thy throne

I stand and lift my soul to Thee;

Then with the saints at Thy right hand,

Good Lord, remember me. Amen.

King Of Glory, King Of Peace

George Herbert

King of glory, King of peace,

I will love thee; and that love may never cease,

I will move thee.

Thou hast granted my request, thou hast heard me;

thou didst not my working breast, thou hast spared me.

Wherefore with my utmost art,

I will sing thee; and the cream of all my heart,

I will bring thee.

Though my sins against me cried, thou didst clear me;

and alone when they replied, thou didst hear me.

Seven whole days, not one in seven,

I will praise thee; in my heart, though not in heaven,

I can raise thee.

Small it is in this poor sort to enroll thee;

e'en eternity's too short to extol thee.
