MORNING WORSHIP 8:45 A.M.

The Twenty-second Sunday after Pentecost/The Sunday of All Saints and All Souls

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                   Rev. Samuel Schaal

(Please pass the red pew pads now. If you are a guest this Sunday,

we would love to greet you following the service or at coffee hour in the Social Hall.)

PRELUDE                                           Amazing Grace                                            arr. Martin

CHIMES AND TOWER BELLS

THE SENTENCES OF PRAISE

Minister:          Lord, you have been our refuge from one generation to another

People:           Even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

Minister:          After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude which no one could number stood before the throne and before the Lamb, and served him day and night in his temple. Who are these arrayed in white robes and from where did they come?

People:           These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Minister:          I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord; he who believes in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever lives and believes in me, shall never die.

People:           So, when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written,

ALL:               Death is swallowed up in victory. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

*THE PRAYER OF PRAISE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

Eternal God, our dwelling place in all generations; we would renew in this hour all fair and noble memories, all high and holy traditions of the days that are no more. We bless you for all the true and righteous souls who have revealed you to us, and who in their generation witnessed a good confession for the welfare of the world, and whose memorial you have set on high and whose names you have made to shine as the stars forever. Almighty Father, the God not of the dead but of the living, we have joy together in all our loved ones who have faithfully lived and peacefully died, and whose truth and beauty are even now in our hearts. May we be assured that they who are absent from us have found a more perfect rest in you, and the crown of an unfading life. Take the veil from our hearts, and join us in one communion with all your saints on earth and in heaven, as we pray the prayer your Son taught us:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

CALL TO CONFESSION                                                          Rev. Steven A. Peay, Ph.D.

THE PRAYER OF HUMILITY (unison)

Let your beauty be upon us, O Lord, transforming our lives from what we are to that which we ought to be, uniting us in a new love, a new grace of service and a new happiness of obedience. Make us to know that between us and you there is nothing but our own blindness of heart, since you are so near and we are often so far away. Make us one with all your seekers and finders, that at last we may be one with those who triumph over time and death by your grace. In His name. Amen.

*PSALMODY (sung)                              Psalm 146                       sung to the tune ‘Beecher

{Children ages 3 through 8th grade are dismissed to Sunday School during the singing of the Psalm.}

Bless the Lord, give praise and honor

Unto God who lends me breath;

May my tongue God’s greatness never

Cease to tell before my death.

And in songs of sovereign goodness,

Let me sing beyond the grave;

God, whose grace my life to ransom,

God whose will my soul to save.

Blest are they whose hope is vested

In the God of Israel;

In the hour of deepest anguish,

God’s provisions will not fail;

Freedom for the shackled spirit,

Strength and stay to those who fall;

Blessings offered without measure,

Righteousness enough for all.

Peace Is Our Prayer

Larry Shackley

Lord, grant us peace in this troubled day,

when hearts are fearful and faith gives way.

Help us to trust in Your firm control;

Peace is our prayer, true peace our goal.

The hearts of rulers are in Your hand

to turn and guide at Your sure command.

Lord, lead them into the paths of right,

and let the nations see Your light.

Lord, please grant to us peace in our time,

peace in our world, in our hearts and our minds.

And, Lord, we cast all our cares upon You

knowing Your promise is true:

A day will come when swords shall be laid down,

the Prince of Peace shall wear the only crown.

All souls oppressed will find release

when war and hate forever and ever melt into peace.

Lord, grant us peace.

Hear, O Israel

From The Book of Prayer

Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is One.

Thou shalt love the Lord, thy God,

with all thy heart and with all thy soul,

and with all thy might.

Praise be His name whose kingdom is forever.

And these words which I command thee,

shall live in your house and be on your heart.
