Duane Coates, Pastoral Intern
Liturgist: We can study the past to
learn what has been done.
People: We
can live in the present to hear what should be done.
Liturgist: We
can hope for the future that God’s will might be done.
People: May
God help us explore our past, present and future that we might know our
rich heritage and live our
promising future.

*CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP
*THE PRAYER OF INVOCATION
AND LORD’S PRAYER (unison)
Faithful
God, you have given us the gift of the church and sustained it with your
covenant.
Keep us firm in our faith, loyal
in our love, and united in our work that we may be your Son’s
body in the world. We pray these
things in the name of the one who taught us to pray…
Our Father who art in
heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done, on
earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our
debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not
into temptation, but deliver
us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.

Join us for Sunday Symposium at 10 a.m. today in Friendship

religion? On February 5, Sandra Bisciglia, from the Carthage Religion
Department, will speak on “Noah in the Hebrew Bible and Jewish Tradition.”
Our church will again publish its
own devotional manual for the 2006 Lenten season. Each day of Lent (from Ash
Wednesday, March 1, to Easter Sunday, April 16) will feature a daily reflection
written by members of First Congregational Church. You are invited to share in
this ministry and write a daily reflection. Sign up in the office and obtain a
copy of the guidelines.

A Vineyard
Grows Amid the World's Bleak Wilderness
Jaroslav J.
Vajda
Amid the
world's bleak wilderness
A vineyard
grows with promise green,
The planting
of the Lord himself, the planting of the Lord.
His love
selected this terrain,
His vine with
love he planted here
To bear the
choicest fruit for him.
We are his
branches, chosen, dear,
And though we
feel the dresser's knife,
We are the
objects of his care.
From him we
draw the juice of life,
For him
supply his winery
With fruit
from which true joys derive.
Vine, keep
what I was meant to be:
Your branch,
with your rich life in me.
Rejoice
the Lord is King
Charles Wesley
Rejoice the
Lord is King, your Lord and King adore!
Rejoice, give
thanks, and sing and triumph evermore.
Lift up your
hearts, Lift up your voice, rejoice, again I say rejoice.
The Lord, our
Savior reigns, the God of truth and love,
when He had
purged our sins, He took his place above.
Lift up your
heart! Lift up your voice, rejoice, again I say, rejoice!
His kingdom
cannot fail, He rules over earth and heaven;
The keys of
death and hell are to our Jesus given.
Lift up your
heart. Lift up your voice, rejoice, again I say, rejoice.
Rejoice in
glorious hope! Our Lord the judge will come
and take his
servants up to their eternal throne.
Lift up your
heart! Lift up your voice, rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

Be Not
Afraid
Isaiah 43:1-4
Be not
afraid: for I have redeemed you;
be not
afraid: I have called you by name.
When you pass
through the waters, I will be with you;
when you pass
through the floods, they will not sweep over you;
when you walk
through the fire, you will not be consumed;
you are mine,
you are precious in my sight.
My love for
you is everlasting,
my love for
you shall have no end.
When you pass
through the waters, I will be with you;
when you pass
through the floods, they will not sweep over you;
when you walk
through the fire, you will not be consumed;
you are mine,
you are precious in my sight.
Gloria
(from Heiligmesse 1796)

Michael S. Woodman
Glory to God,
to God in Heaven.
Unto God,

Let there

Let there be
on earth good will and peace to all men.
We praise
Thee, Lord! And we bless Thee, O Lord!
We who
worship Thee. We glorify Thee, Lord, we glorify Thee!
