*CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP

*INVOCATION AND LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the
 earth and at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son
 and anointed him with the Holy Spirit. Lead us, who know you now by faith,

to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face. Grant that all who are
 baptized into his name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess

him as Lord and Savior; who taught us to call upon you saying…

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

This One Star

John Parker

Brightly shines the evening star in the sky,

Guiding us to where You are in the nighttime sky.

Show the travelers where to go by Your light.

Wrap them with a brilliant glow by Your guiding light.

Infinite the heavens, countless are the stars;

yet this one in splendor shall lead to where You are.

Now we know the road to choose from Your light;

and the way we will not lose from this one star's light.

Infinite the heavens, countless are the stars;

yet this one in splendor shall lead to where you are.

Come and see the baby King beneath the light.

In your meekness come and sing, Jesus is the light.

 He Comes to Us

Albert Schweitzer

He comes to us as One unknown, without a name, as of old,

by the lakeside. He came to those men who knew Him not.

He speaks to us, He speaks the same word:

"Follow! Follow! Follow thou me!"

and sets us to the tasks which He has to fulfill for our time.

He commands, And to those who obey Him, whether they be wise or simple,

He will reveal Himself in the toils, the conflicts, the sufferings

which they shall pass through in His fellowship,

and, as an ineffable mystery, they shall learn in their own experience Who He is.

O Morning Star, how fair and bright

Thou beamest forth in truth and light!

O Sovereign meek and lowly.

Thou Root of Jesse, David's Son,

My Lord and Master, Thou hast won

My heart to serve Thee solely!

Thou art holy, Fair and glorious, all victorious,

Rich in blessing, Rule and might o'er all possessing.

Bethlehem, of Noblest Cities

Prudentius Prudentius (348-410), O sola magnarum urbium;

trans. Edward Caswall (1814-1878)

Bethlehem, of noblest cities

none can once with thee compare;

thou alone the Lord from heaven

didst for us incarnate bear.

Fairer than the sun at morning

was the star that told his birth;

to the lands their God announcing,

hid beneath a form of earth.

By its lambent beauty guided

see the eastern kings appear;

see them bend, their gifts to offer,

gifts of incense, gold and myrrh.

Solemn things of mystic meaning:

incense doth the God disclose,

gold a royal child proclaimeth,

myrrh a future tomb foreshows.

Holy Jesus, in thy brightness

to the Gentile world displayed,

with the Father and the Spirit

endless praise to thee be paid.

One Small Star

Sally K. Albrecht and Jay Althouse

One small star led the way to Bethlehem.

One star glowing through the night.

One small star shining on the universe.

Just one star burning clear and bright.

Sing Noel, sing of the babe, sing Noel.

One small child crying in a manger bed.

One small child in a cattle stall.

One small child born upon that special night.

One child to save us all.

Sing Noel, sing of the babe, sing Noel.

The first Noel the angel did say

was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay.

In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,

on a cold winter's night that was so deep.

Sing Noel, sing of the babe, sing Noel.

One small star.
