CALL TO WORSHIP

Liturgist:    O God, we meet again in this familiar place, this strange, familiar place:

People:     Remembering the countless faithful who have worshipped you through the centuries;

Liturgist:    Thankfully aware of other millions who are worshipping you today. For this very day, this very hour,
 your people gather in all parts of the world as we gather here in this place.

People:     Help us today to celebrate the tie that binds us to fellow Christians through the ages and
 throughout the planet, the communion we have with them in Word and in Sacrament.

Liturgist:    That our faith may be strengthened, our love empowered, and our witness given wings.

ALL:         Through Jesus Christ, the great Head of the church. Amen.

*THE CHORAL CALL TO WORSHIP

*THE INVOCATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER (unison)

Almighty God, you built your church on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with
 Jesus Christ himself as the cornerstone. Gather your church in unity, by your Holy Spirit, that
 it may manifest your power among all peoples to the glory of your name; through Jesus Christ
our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, and who taught us to pray:

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

THE CELEBRATION OF HOLY COMMUNION

  The Communion Service is from the Congregational Worship Book for Free Churches

INVITATION OF CHRIST

THE COMMUNION COLLECT

THE GENERAL CONFESSION (by minister and people)

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done; and have done those things which we ought not to have done. But you, O Lord, have mercy upon us. Spare those, O God, who confess their faults to you. Restore those who are penitent; according to your promises declared unto us in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy name. Amen.

ASSURANCE OF GOD’S FORGIVENESS (by the minister)

THE INVITIATON TO THE LORD’S TABLE

THE PREFACE AND ‘HOLY HOLY’

Minister:          Lift up your hearts.

People:           We life them up to the Lord our God.

Minister:          Let us give thanks unto the Lord our God.

People:           It is right and proper to give God thanks and praise.

Minister:          It is very right and holy duty that we should at all times and in all places give

                        thanks unto you, O Lord, holy Father, almighty, everlasting God (here may be

                        inserted a seasonal or other appropriate preface for the Christian year). Therefore with

angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we glorify and praise your glorious name; evermore praising you and saying:

(Minister and People together)  Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts; Heaven and earth are full of your glory; Glory be to you, O Lord, most high. Amen.

PRAYER OF CONSECRATION OR EUCHARISTIC PRAYER

THE WORDS OF INSTITUTION

Giving of the Bread

(Minister)  The Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread: And when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken

for you; do this in remembrance of me.

Ministering to you in his name, I give you this bread.

Giving of the Cup

(Minister)  After supper he took the cup and again gave God thanks and praise and said, This is the cup of the new testament in my blood: do this, as often as you drink it in remembrance of me. For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes again in glory.

Ministering to you in this name, I give you this cup.

THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING (unison)

We give thanks to you almighty God, that you have refreshed us with this memorial of your love, and have granted to us the presence of your Son, even Jesus Christ our Lord; and we ask you to strengthen our faith in your and to increase our love toward one another; through him who is our redeemer. Amen.

*HYMN 289                      Father, We Thank Thee Who Hast Planted

*THE CHARGE AND BENEDICTION

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

God be with you till we meet again; By his counsels guide, uphold you,

With his sheep securely fold you; God be with you till we meet again. Amen.

THE POSTLUDE                              Praise to the Lord                                         arr. Curnow

*The congregation is invited to stand.

Call To Remembrance

Psalm 25:5,6

Call to remembrance, O Lord,

Thy tender mercy and Thy loving kindness,

which have been ever of old.

O remember not the sins and offences of my youth,

but according to Thy mercy think Thou on me, O Lord,

for Thy goodness.

How Lovely Is Thy Dwelling Place

from the Psalms, and Mary Lynn Lightfoot

Narrator: I through the abundance of thy steadfast love will enter thy house;

lead me, O Lord, in thy righteousness; make thy way straight before me.

How lovely is thy dwelling place,

O Lord of hosts, O Lord of hosts!

How lovely is thy dwelling place!

My soul ever longs for the house of the Lord

and my heart sings for joy.

The children take refuge in the shadow of thy wings,

They feast on the plenties of thy house and drink from thy river of delight.

For with thee is the fountain of life: And in thy light do we see light

Oh send out thy light and thy truth and let them lead me,

Let them bring me to thy holy hill and to thy dwelling!

How lovely is thy dwelling place,

O Lord of hosts, O Lord of hosts!

How lovely is thy dwelling place!

My soul ever longs for the house of the Lord

and my heart sings for joy.

Let All the World in every Corner Sing

George Herbert

Let all the world in every corner sing, My God and King.

The heavens are not too high, His praise may thither fly;

The earth is not too low, His praises there may grow.

Let all the world in every corner sing My God and King.

The Church with psalms must shout, No door can keep them out,

But above all the heart must bear the longest part.

Let all the world in every corner sing My God and King.

God Who Built This Wondrous Planet

Jaroslav J. Vajda

God, Who built this wondrous planet

And all worlds beyond these bounds,

Crown your work and ours with blessing,

Meet us here on hallowed ground.

With Your glory fill this temple,

here be sought and here be found.

Christ, You build a holy structure

That, like You, outlasts the earth;

Chosen, like Yourself, You make us

Living stones of priceless worth;

Home, where prodigals returning,

Celebrate with holy mirth.

Spirit, may Your church a beacon

Beaming hope where hoping wants,

Daily in these stones creating

Life where death no longer reigns,

And in grateful hearts forgiven

Spark the love the world but feigns.

Living Father, living Lord;

Living Savior, living Word;

Living Spirit, living temple;

We adoring, You adored! Amen.
