Liturgist:      Arise, shine; for your light has come!

People:       We have chased the star across the sky. We have journeyed far to worship

                       a wrinkled, crying child.

Liturgist:      The glory of God has risen upon you!

People:       We have opened our treasures before the babe: our wealth, our hopes,

                       our very lives.

Liturgist:      But hear! The hatred of Herod approaches!

People:       We shall return to our homes by another way, having knelt at this place

                       where the child lay!

All:               Joy to the world, arise from your bed; the light of the ages has come!

*INVOCATION AND LORDÕS PRAYER (unison)

O God, as we join in worship remembering that day the heavens opened and the Holy Spirit anointed Jesus at his baptism, Open our eyes to behold wondrous things out of your Word; Open our ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to the church; Open our hearts to believe unto salvation and righteousness; Open our lips to witness to our living Lord, Jesus, who taught us to prayÉ

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

Noel Sing!, Based on the French carol "Noel Nouvelet"

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel sing we here.

Praising God in heaven, Voices loud and clear.

Noel we sing to praise the newborn King.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel sing we here.

Angels bring their message, 'Shepherds haste away!

Find the Infant Saviour lying in the hay.'

Noel we sing to praise the newborn King.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel sing we here.

Three Kings visit Jesus, traveling from afar,

Bearing gifts, they find him, guided by a star.

Noel we sing to praise the newborn King.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel sing we here.

Here the Saviour Jesus, born to give us life.

Shedding blood for all men, Conqueror of strife.

Noel we sing to praise the newborn King.

Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel sing we here.

Where Shepherds Lately Knelt, Jaroslav J. Vajda

Where shepherds lately knelt, and kept the angel's word,

I come in half-belief, a pilgrim strangely stirred;

but there is room and welcome there for me.

In that unlikely place I find Him as they said;

sweet newborn Babe how frail? and in a manger bed;

a still small Voice to cry one day for me.

How should I not have known Isaiah would be there,

his prophecies fulfilled? With pounding heart I stare;

a Child, a Son, the Prince of Peace for me.

Can I, will I forget how love was born

and burned its way into my heart unasked, unforced, unearned,

to die, to live, and not alone for me?

What Is This Lovely Fragrance, Old French Carol

What is this lovely fragrance

wafting like to the scents of flowers in spring!

Shepherds, O tell us, whence such beauty,

Hear you not heavenly caroling?

What is this lovely fragrance wafting like to the scents of flowers in spring.

What is this light so fair, so tender

Breaking upon our wondering eyes?

Never the Morning Star so radiant

Followed his course over eastern skies.

What is this light so fair, so tender,

Breaking upon our wondering eyes?

Shepherds, O haste with eager footsteps

Seek the Saviour, born today.

Low at His feet we lay our treasure,

Heart's adoration, love for aye.

Shepherds, O haste with eager footsteps

Seek the Saviour, born today.

Good King Wenceslas, John M. Neale (1818-1866)

Good King Wenceslas looked out on the Feast of Stephen,

When the snow lay round about, deep and crisp and even.

Brightly shone the moon that night, though the frost was cruel,

When a poor man came in sight, gathering winter fuel.

ÒHither, page, and stand by me, if you know it, telling,

Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?Ó

ÒSire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain,

Right against the forest fence, by Saint AgnesÕ fountain.Ó

ÒBring me flesh and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither,

You and I will see him dine, when we bear them thither.Ó

Page and monarch, forth they went, forth they went together,

Through the cold windÕs wild lament and the bitter weather.

ÒSire, the night is darker now, and the wind blows stronger,

Fails my heart, I know not how; I can go no longer.Ó

ÒMark my footsteps, my good page, tread now in them boldly,

You shall find the winterÕs rage freeze your blood less coldly.Ó

In his masterÕs steps he trod, where the snow lay dinted;

Heat was in the very sod which the saint had printed.

Therefore, Christian men, be sure, wealth or rank possessing,

You who now will bless the poor shall yourselves find blessing.
