*INVOCATION AND LORDÕSPRAYER (unison)

Almighty God, in thisseason of waiting we again look hopefully to the emergence of the light fromthe manger, a sign that the hope of Christ is made manifest to the world. Renewus this day for our journey on this new year of the Christian calendar, so thatthe light, love and hope of the infancy of holiness might refresh the tiredstructures of our lives. We open our hearts now to the spirit of the living Godwho moves among us and we pray the prayer that Jesus taught us, sayingÉ

Our Father who art inheaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, onearth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us ourdebts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not

into temptation, butdeliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom,

and the power, and theglory, forever.  Amen.

CharlesWesley, 1744

born to setthy people free;

from ourfears and sins release us;

let us findour rest in thee.

Born thypeople to deliver,

born a child,and yet a king,

born to reignin us forever,

now thygracious kingdom bring.

By thine owneternal Spirit

by thine allsufficient merit

raise us tothy glorious throne.

People, lookEast.

The time isnear of the crowning of the year. Make your house fair as you are bale,

trim thehearth, and set the table.

People, lookEast, and sing today:

Love, theguest, is on the way.

Furrows, beglad,

Though earthis bare, one more seed is planted there: Give up your strength the seed tonourish, that in course the flower may flourish. People, look East, and singtoday: Love, the rose, is on the way.

Birds, thoughye long have ceased to build, guard the nest that must be filled.

Even the hourwhen wings are frozen,

He forfledging time has chosen.

People, lookEast, and sing today;

Love, the birdis on the way.

Stars, keepthe watch,

When night isdim one more light the bowl shall brim, shining beyond the frosty weather,bright as sun and moon together.

People, lookEast, and sing today:

Love, thestar, is on the way.

Angels,announce to man and beast

Him whocometh from the East.

Set everypeak and valley humming

with theword, the Lord is coming.

People, lookEast, and sing today:

Love, theLord, is on the way.

Hark, TheGlad Sound! The Savior Comes

PhilipDoddridge (1735)

Hark, theglad sound! The Savior comes,

The Saviorpromised long;

Let everyheart prepare a throne

And everyvoice a song.

Hosanna inexcelsis deo, Hosanna gloria!

He comes thebroken heart to bind,

The bleedingsoul to cure,

And with thetreasures of his grace

To help thehumble poor.
