MORNING WORSHIP 8:45 AND 11:00 A.M.

23rd Sunday after Pentecost, the Sunday of All Saints and All Souls

GATHERING MUSIC

                                                                A Thought to Worship By:

A Congregational Church is made up of saints by calling—Cambridge Platform, 1648

WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS                                                    Rev. Samuel R. Schaal

THE PRELUDE                             Children of the Heavenly Father                                                Bitgood

CHIMES AND TOWER BELLS

THE SENTENCES OF PRAISE

Liturgist:      Lord, you have been our refuge from one generation to another

People:       Even from everlasting to everlasting, you are God.

Liturgist:      After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude which no one could number stood

                       before the throne and before the Lamb, and served him day and night in his

                       temple. Who are these arrayed in white robes and from where did they come?

People:       These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their

                       robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.

Minister:      I am the resurrection and the life, says the Lord: he who believes in me, though

                       he were dead, yet shall he live; and whosoever lives and believes in me, shall

                       never die.

People:       So, when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal

                       shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying

                       that is written,

All:               Death is swallowed up in victory. But thanks be to God, who gives us the

                       victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

CHORAL FANFARE

*HYMN 306                                                 For All the Saints

*INVOCATION AND LORDÕS PRAYER (unison)

Eternal God, our dwelling place in all generations; we would renew in this hour all fair and noble memories, all high and holy traditions of the days that are no more. We bless you for all the true and righteous souls who have revealed you to us,

and who in their generation witnessed a good confession for the welfare of the world, and whose memorial you have set on high and whose names you have made to shine as the stars forever. Almighty Father, the God not of the dead but of the living, we have joy together in all our loved ones who have faithfully lived and peacefully died, and whose truth and beauty are even now in our hearts. May we be assured that they who are absent from us have found a more perfect rest in you, and the crown of an unfading life. Take the veil from our hearts, and join us in one communion with all your saints on earth and in heaven, as we pray the prayer your Son taught usÉ

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come,

Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread;

and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.  Amen.

*THE GLORIA PATRI (Hymn 513)

CALL TO CONFESSION                                                                        Rev. Carrie Kreps Wegenast

THE PRAYER OF HUMILITY (unison)

Let your beauty be upon us, O Lord, transforming our lives from what we are to that which we ought to be, uniting us in a new love, a new grace of service and a new happiness of obedience. Make us to know that between us and you there is nothing but our own blindness of heart, since you are so near and we are often so far away. Make us one with all your seekers and finders, that at last we may be one with those who triumph over time and death by your grace. In His name. Amen.

               The Sentences of Dedication

The Prayer of Dedication (unison)

Our loving Father, we consecrate ourselves, all that we have and are, to you and to our fellow travelers. Help us to be worthy of all heroic martyrs who,

in war or the perils of peace, went where duty called them, witnessing that your love is better than life. Assist us to carry forward the work of All Saints, and to perpetuate in labor and vision the love of All Souls, who were near and dear to us. We are yours! And we would give you that which is your own. Amen.

*THE CONGREGATIONAL RESPONSE

Go now in peace. Never be afraid.

God will go with you each hour of every day.

Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true.

Know He will guide you in all you do.

Go now in love, and show you believe.

Reach out to others so all the world can see.

God will be there, watching from above.

Go now in peace, in faith, and in love.

Canticle of Faithfulness

Psalm 89 and Thomas O. Chisholm

My song forever shall record

the tender mercies of the Lord;

Thy faithfulness will I proclaim,

And every age shall know Thy Name.

I sing of mercies that endure

For ever builded firm and sure,

Of faithfulness that never dies,

Established in the skies.

The heavens shall join in glad accord

To praise Thy wondrous works,

O Lord Thy faithfulness shall praise command,

Where holy ones assembled stand.

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;

Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not;

As Thou hast been, Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!

Morning by morning new mercies I see!

All I have needed Thy hand hath provided

Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

In all Thy works and vast designs

Thy faithfulness forever shines! Alleluia!
