Revised Standard Version

Jeremiah 1:4-10

[4] Now the word of the LORD came to me saying, [5] "Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations."  [6] Then I said, "Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth."   [7] But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, `I am only a youth'; for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak.  [8] Be not afraid of them, for I am with you to deliver you, says the LORD." [9] Then the LORD put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and the LORD said to me, "Behold, I have put my words in your mouth.  [10] See, I have set you this day over nations and over kingdoms, to pluck up and to break down, to destroy and to overthrow, to build and to plant."

Luke 4:21-30

[21] And he began to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."  [22] And all spoke well of him, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth; and they said, "Is not this Joseph's son?"  [23] And he said to them, "Doubtless you will quote to me this proverb, `Physician, heal yourself; what we have heard you did at Caper'na-um, do here also in your own country.'"  [24] And he said, "Truly, I say to you, no prophet is acceptable in his own country.  [25] But in truth, I tell you, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Eli'jah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when there came a great famine over all the land;  [26] and Eli'jah was sent to none of them but only to Zar'ephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who was a widow.  [27] And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of the prophet Eli'sha; and none of them was cleansed, but only Na'aman the Syrian."  [28] When they heard this, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath.  [29] And they rose up and put him out of the city, and led him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, that they might throw him down headlong.  [30] But passing through the midst of them he went away.

King James Version

Jeremiah 1:4-10

[4] Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, [5] Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.  [6] Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.  [7] But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.  [8] Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.  [9] Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.  [10] See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

Luke 4:21-30

[21] And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.  [22] And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.  And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?  [23] And he said unto them, Ye will surely say unto me this proverb, Physician, heal thyself: whatsoever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in thy country.  [24] And he said, Verily I say unto you, No prophet is accepted in his own country.  [25] But I tell you of a truth, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; [26] But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow.  [27] And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Eliseus the prophet; and none of them was cleansed, saving Naaman the Syrian.  [28] And all they in the synagogue, when they heard these things, were filled with wrath, [29] And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong.  [30] But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

Jeremiah 1:4-10

[4] The word of the LORD came to me, saying, [5] "Before I formed you in the womb I knew( 1) you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."  [6] "Ah, Sovereign LORD," I said, "I do not know how to speak; I am only a child."  [7] But the LORD said to me, "Do not say, `I am only a child.' You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you.  [8] Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you," declares the LORD.  [9] Then the LORD reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, "Now, I have put my words in your mouth.  [10] See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant."

Luke 4:21-30

[21] and he began by saying to them, "Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."  [22] All spoke well of him and were amazed at the gracious words that came from his lips. "Isn't this Joseph's son?" they asked.  [23] Jesus said to them, "Surely you will quote this proverb to me: `Physician, heal yourself! Do here in your hometown what we have heard that you did in Capernaum.'"  [24] "I tell you the truth," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown.  [25] I assure you that there were many widows in Israel in Elijah's time, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and there was a severe famine throughout the land.  [26] Yet Elijah was not sent to any of them, but to a widow in Zarephath in the region of Sidon.  [27] And there were many in Israel with leprosy[6] in the time of Elisha the prophet, yet not one of them was cleansed--only Naaman the Syrian."  [28] All the people in the synagogue were furious when they heard this.  [29] They got up, drove him out of the town, and took him to the brow of the hill on which the town was built, in order to throw him down the cliff.  [30] But he walked right through the crowd and went on his way.
